How often have you heard the expressions above? This can be so true. In all the lessons I give in a week I would say that only between 1 and 2 are on the putting green. This must mean one of the following.

1. That every newsletter reader is a great putter and doesn't need any help. 
2. That you think there isn't much technique in putting and that it will sort itself out. 
3. You haven't even given it a thought.

Putting is the one of if not the most important parts to your game. The game of golf has changed over the years and now with big headed drivers and lighter and longer shafts most golfers are only thinking about getting more distance and not concerning themselves with anything else. Yes driving the ball is very important but it means nothing if you cant get the ball in the hole at the other end. Have a look below at the averages on the PGA tour for the best putters.

Most amateur golfers like to think about 2 putting every hole. This would average 36 putts per round. If you look above at the stats Charl Schwartzel would be 9 shots better than you just on putting before he hits a iron or wood. Also have a look at the low putting totals. 22 putts in a round of golf is incredible. That's 14 single putts in a round.

So why do I feel so strong about peoples putting?

Putting doesn't require strength, you don't need to be a certain shape or height to putt well. Every golfer who plays golf providing they are using the correct putter should putt well. It requires feel, touch and also you need to learn how to read green. It can and will save you many shots and will be a massive contributor in your handicap being what it is. With simple changes we could make a massive difference.

The junior academy continues to be very successful with around 30 children coming every Saturday from 10am until 11am to learn golf. If you have a child who's between the age of 4 and 10 and their interested in golf bring them along and let's get them started.

What has the pro shop staff been up to?

A busy Easter week and it look set to continue. I managed to get myself a couple of 18 holes in last week around Kidderminster and I thought the course looked amazing. The greens rolled well and the definition between fairway and rough look brilliant. Steve continues to do a great job in Noels absence. Noel will be having his operation on Wednesday and all being well should return to work some time in May. I know you all wish Noel all the best for his operation.
