One of the biggest questions I get asked whilst teaching these days is how can tour players and certain club players hit the ball so far, especially with a driver? There is a number of reason to create distance on a golf ball.
The main reasons are: Club head speed. It obvious that the more speed you generate the more distance you create. The question is how to gain club head speed?
Shoulder turn.
A good shoulder turn on the back swing will create a coil and turning back to the ball will create your uncoil which in turn will create your club head speed. More turn more speed. Remember turn to what your bodies is comfortable with.
Relaxed grip.
Any tension in your grip will restrict wrist hinge and will shorten your forearm muscles, if you do grip to tight you will then struggle to release the club and will reduce speed.
Striking the middle.
Since using the cave and the GC2 monitor it's quite amazing how much ball speed you lose when you don't hit the ball out of the middle of the club. If you hit the ball out of the toe or the heel you can lose up to 25% club head speed. The reason for off centre hits can be bad swing plane, ball position and if your clubs are the wrong lie and length for you.
Correct clubs.
It is always important that you use clubs designed for you and your swing. If you have clubs to flat or to upright you will find it hard to strike the ball consistently at your target. If your shafts are to light or heavy, to flexible or stiff again this will play a major part in you not getting the right results.
If you grips are worn, driver loft incorrect again it all bring the ball speed down.

What's the pro shop staff up to?
This week we are all attending the PGA dinner on Friday at Kings Norton.
I'm taking Macey up the Albion on Saturday for the first, and probably the last time on Saturday to watch the baggies take on Norwich.
I'm still extremely busy teaching and just about to hopefully start plying a few times myself.
Noel continue to be swamp with cardboard boxes as more deliveries arrive.
Dad is on top of trolley repairs and Ethan continues to do a great job at weekends.
Have a great week .
