FTBA golf society celebrate their 60th year with Kidderminster
The carpet trades golf society played their annual two day tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The society celebrated their 60th year this year and this has always been held at Kidderminster, back in the days when the carpet trades were booming they also held the event over a second course, because they had so many players entering the event.
Although the numbers of participates has reduced in the past few years we still had over 120 play Tuesday and 80 play Wednesday so well done to all involved.
I know they raised a large amount of money for charity so congratulations and we looking forward in seeing you back next year.
Aaron tees up for his first professional event
One of my pupils Aaron Wright qualified for the euro pro tour last month and this week he plays his first event at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire.
Aaron came to see me Saturday morning where we worked on his wedge play, trying to create a better and more consistent strike and working on his distance control.
We wish Aaron all the best and look forward to letting you know how he gets on next week.

Do you use the right golf ball?
With the wide variety of golf balls on the market, it's hard for an amateur with an average swing speed to select the best golf ball that also delivers the best bang for your buck.
Generally speaking, the more complex the golf ball (layer construction, core, cover, dimple design, compression, spin control), the more expensive the golf ball.
Since the Titleist ProV1 is the #1 ball played on the PGA TOUR, amateurs flock to stores to buy them and usually shell out £40 or more per dozen.
That would be understandable if you lost very few golf balls or had a swing speed over 100mph.
Fact is that there are several golf balls on the market that meet the needs of all golfers, regardless of skill level.
General Rules of Thumb
Core: Stiffer core generates greater spin and feel while a larger core produces more power and increases speed.
Dimples: The larger and shallower the dimple, the higher the flight for the ball.
Cover: Urethane is thiner and softer so it offers more control and feel on approach shots and chips while Surlyn is typically harder and is used for distance and durability so it delivers less spin.
Layer Construction: Multi-layered balls are more complex and expand control and feel. Two-layered balls are usually best for beginner golfers.
