Get the most from your swing

Now the summer is here it's important that we make the most from our swings and maximise our distance to help the holes become shorter and easier.

Here are some great tips to help make the most from your swings.

Good posture

A good posture will help you create a good swing.

Remember a good posture and set up is 80% of a good golf shot.

To create a good posture you need a good straight back, legs flexed and weight on the balls of your toes. Also make sure your arms hang by your side and not to close or stretch to the ball.

If you get in to a good posture it will make a massive difference to creating a better back swing.

Good shoulder turn

To create club head speed one of the best ways is to create a good shoulder turn, the more turn the more club head speed is generated. Left shoulder under your chin (right handed golfers) back to the target. These feeling will help create shoulder turn. Remember turn as far as your body will allow you.

Hit against your left side

To help create club head speed at the bottom of the swing uncoil your shoulders and hit against your left side. The more you hit against your left side the more resistance you create and this will help maximise your distance. No swaying or moving in front of the ball.

Good release

A good wide and balanced follow through make a big difference. If you think about throwing a ball the release would be the most important and can be in your golf swing. Hit the ball down the target line, keep the arms wide and release the club down your back.

If you do all the above this will help get the most from your swing.

Foot golf is good fun

Last week I took Macey to try foot golf. It really is good fun. Foot golf is a golf course of holes around 40 to 100 yards with bunkers fairways and big holes. You kick the ball until you get the ball in the hole. This is proving to be very popular and hopefully will help more people get in to the game.

Macey played 18 holes and throughly enjoyed it. Notice the football kit, boing boing.

What's the pro shop staff up to this week?

This week is again another busy week. I've been busy teaching and although my back is better it's still not 100% and hopefully I will be back to full fitness soon. Noel is away Thursday playing Burnham and Berrow with Brian Pinner for the Lombard trophy so we wish them luck. I'll let you know how they get on next week. James returns from holiday and is back to work, James is working hard re branding the shop and also we have enrolled James on the PGA level 1 coaching course. Ethan is back to college and will be back to weekend work and my dads away playing but returns to work Saturday.
