Am Am a great day
Last Saturday we held our annual Am Am open. With a week of torrential rain we were up against it yet again. With us having to cancel the spring pairs open after heavy rain and snow it could have been easily the same outcome again.
The green staff worked so hard to make the course the best it could possibly look and they didn't disappoint. The feedback from the visitors was wonderful along with our members. We had many visitors saying it was the best condition course they had played this year. We had 49 teams teeing off from 7.30am until 3.30pm.
The scoring was very close all the way through and the team of Andy, Simon and Jon Thompson along with Steve Brooks came through on top with a score of 89 points.
Simon had a winter coaching programme and has seen his handicap reduce by 3 shots, Andy is currently having lessons along with Steve Brooks so it seems the lessons are paying off.

In all open events the competition committee are trying hard to make the day successful and look professional. Did you notice our new banners? Designed by Steve O'Conner.
Many thanks must go to everyone involved in making these days run smoothly.
Dustin got over the line
Congratulations goes to Dustin Johnston for winning the US open at Oakmount last week. The course looked brutal but that's how the US open courses are set up, anything level par is never far away. Such a shame for the Europeans for getting so close and I'm sure Shane Lowry will win a major in the next few years. Dustin Johnston drove the first 4 drives on Sunday a total of a mile in distance. I do feel that unless they make a change in the professional game soon with the ball, some of these courses could become ridiculous.
Holes over 620 yards that are a driver and a iron, par 3s at 300 yards. The problem you have in making the courses longer and longer it plays in to the hands of the long hitters but the shorter hitters are being left further behind.
Take Luke Donald, was world number 1 but hasn't got the length to play some of these holes. I do feel the powers that be need to look into this to help the tournaments get better and to make the courses a challenge again.
Dustin Johnston uses Taylormade clubs. Maybe with the new M2 driver you can drive the ball 330 yards carry and over 350 yards in total.
