Senior Christmas Comp

A wonderful day on Monday for the men's seniors section who held their shot gun start Christmas comp. The turn out was excellent and everyone who played enjoyed the day.

The course was frozen solid so it made for some very interesting scores.

Tip of the week

Do you feel the cold??

Trapping the heat in order to keep your body and muscles warm and supple. Many people still believe that wearing a t-shirt with a big thick jumper will keep them warm, the problem with this is that big thick layers force our body to sweat, which in fact cools our body temperature down.

The answer to keeping warm on the golf course is to trap warm air close to the body by using the 3 layer system; The 3 layering system is made up of a base layer/compression top, a mid-layer (short/long sleeve polo shirt or sweater) and an outer layer (wind-breaker, jacket).

This system is designed to keep the warm air close to the body as well as transporting moisture away from the skin. studies show that wearing plenty of thinner layers of clothing is much more efficient in keeping the heat in.

Base Layers - This is the first layer and often the thinnest of the three. Its main purpose is to transport the moisture away from the skin to prevent sweating and to maintain body temperature.

Mid-Layer - On colder days, a mid-layer can be used to effectively insulate the wearer even more. Merino wool is the most ideal fabric to wear as a mid-layer as this is one of the finest, strongest and warmest in the world.

Outer-Layer - This is generally the most technical layer of the three, as it has to prevent rain, wind and snow penetrating the surface as well as allowing any body heat to escape All these layers are available in the pro shop with under armour, pro quip, Glenmuir and Callaway.

Pop in store and take a look.

My Youtube video for this week

Do you understand wedge bounce and how it can effect your shots?

Many members come into the shop and just ask for a certain loft, I then ask them about bounce and they look confused.

Take a look at my youtube video and this will help you understand the bounce on wedge and maybe which bounce you need.

Club news

Greens hand cut and looking amazing.

As can be seen the greens have been hand cut on Wednesday and they roll amazing for the time of the year.

I know members have asked about playing on Greens when they are frozen solid but no damaged can be done whilst they are like concrete, it's when the frost is coming out we have to stop playing on the greens until the frost is fully out of the ground.

Junior camps

Still time to sign your little love one up for one of our Christmas camps.

Get the kids out for Christmas

We have 2 coaching camps and the kids Christmas party.

What's the pro shop staff up to this week?

Both Noel and myself are playing Thursday in the Worcestershire PGA Christmas comp. I'm also playing Friday afternoon. The weekend is very busy with coaching and hopefully Christmas trade.

I'm away playing next Thursday at Royal Lytham with my dad for his birthday treat with Mark Baker and Phil Brookes joining us to make a really nice 4 ball.

Let's hope Lytham have a good sense of humour when they see what Mark is wearing.

The wait is over, Tiger Woods is back. This perfect bunker shot was one of many highlights from his four days in the Bahamas - although there was plenty of rust, too.
