Loft up for more distance
How my tip will help:
You will learn what huge differences equipment can make in both distance and accuracy.
Here's my tip:
There are too many golfers that believe only the latest and greatest equipment will increase distance. This is not entirely true. While new equipment may increase distance compared to very old equipment, most golfers do not understand the most important aspects of their equipment.
I pose the following question to every golfer I meet: What is the most important feature of your driver? The answer I get most frequently is shaft, "the shaft is the engine" some say. "The right flex is the most important for distance" I hear from others. Out of hundreds of people I only had one that answered the question correctly. The most important aspect of your driver for distance and accuracy is loft.
Not only is loft critical for maximum carry, but is also the leading factor in swing problems. I would venture to guess that 95-percent or more of golfers today are playing too little loft on their driver. It is not their fault; it is the industry's fault. Most manufacturers don't offer drivers with enough loft for the average golfer.
The average golfer does not swing the club as fast as a tour player. The speed you create is directly related to the amount of loft required for maximum distance or carry. Use this as an example. If you were a gardener and you wanted to water the flowers, you have the hose pulled all the way out and the water on full blast. Now hold the hose level. If you can't reach the flowers in the back of the garden which way would you move the hose? Up or down? I hope you said "up." (But you can also reach a point where you have raised the hose too high and begin to lose distance.)
So why does the golf industry tell us that if you can't hit your 10.5 degree driver far enough try a 9.5 degree? Does this make any sense at all? The argument I get most frequently is that "I hit my 9.5 degree too high already." Yes, you probably do, but have you made a good swing?
Players that hit the driver too high strike the golf ball with an ascending blow, typically off the back foot. The very moment that your club has reached the bottom of your swing and is heading back up it is slowing down. If speed equals distance (and it does) then you are already robbing yourself of potential distance.
Advice
My advice to you is that if you are in the market for a new driver, please get a fitting from myself or Noel. The benefits of equipment that fits cannot be overstated, for every golfer, especially mid- to higher handicap golfers. You will score better and have much more enjoyment in every round.

What has the pro shop staff been up to?
Last week was a very busy week with the Friday meal deal followed then by the Am Am and then 2 golf societies in between. The weather has been good which is great news for coaching. Noel is fully back now and is available for coaching but will not start playing for another 4 weeks. My dad is busy on the trolley front. I will be away Thursday playing Astbury Hall and will be busy Friday getting things ready for the Captains weekend.
