Competition news

John Hudson trophy a huge success.

Last Sunday we held our junior open. The John Hudson trophy is for the best gross for the boys. John was a past captain of the golf club and a big supporter of junior golf, I have very fond memories of John as he was the person that interviewed me when I joined the club just the 27 years ago.

The best gross for the girls play for the ladies committee cup donated by the ladies section.

This year we also invited all my academy golfers and we had a great turn out considering it's school holidays and the main factory fortnight.

We had 37 juniors all together and we had a great afternoon and the golf was at a very high standard.

Congratulations to Jake Kelly for winning the John Hudson trophy with a gross 75 beating Nathan Slater by one shot.

Congratulations to Constance Brooks for winning the ladies committee cup with a gross 78.

Congratulations to Megan Langford for winning the girls best nett with a 69

Congratulations to Jack Belli for the best nett for the boys with a 70. I coached Jack through the county coaching and he's a excellent golfer and one to watch in the future.

Shop change around.

This week we have made a few changes to the shop and have taken delivery of new items.

Take a look at our shoe wall. Is there a pair of shoes to suit you? Just sit down take a pair of the wall and try, no need to ask just try as many pairs as you like.

The new club logo sweaters and slipovers have now been delivered and the colours look great.

Coaching news

One plane swing.

For me the easiest way for amateurs to hit a golf ball is to swing the club on one plane.

The plane or the angle of your swing is dictated by the shaft angle at address.

You then need to look at swinging the club on this line on your backswing. Anything underneath the line is to flat and above the is to upright.

You then have to try and return the club at impact back to the position at which it started. This will help create a better strike and a much more consistent swing.
