What a course, a must play.

Last Friday myself, Sam and John Holt went and played Coventry golf club.

Sam was a member there for many years and you can see why. The course was in immaculate condition from start to finish and we had a thoroughly lovely game. 

I played nicely tee to green but the greens were very undulating and quick and really struggled with pace and line and had more putts than shots. 

John and Sam played nicely and it's always nice to play away and have a good chat and check out what other courses are like.

If you have the chance to play this course you must play it.

Last Friday Dees Nan celebrated her 90th birthday.

We had a lovely afternoon and a good opportunity to have a photo taken with my girls.

There both beautiful looking girls, they must take after their dad.

Rain stops play.

If you were out on the golf course Saturday in the medal you must have got soaked. The forecast was for thunder storms and they were correct for a change.

I did hope that the clouds and storm would pass and that I would haven't to sound the Klaxon but in the end we had no choice. Sounding the Klaxon when it was dry and then within 2 minutes the rain came down and flooded everything within 5 minutes, in the end we had to cancel the competition. Members went out in the afternoon and said the course drained brilliantly and the course was excellent for them which is good news.

The weather didn't stop the hardest practicer in the club. Paul Wright tried to stay on the practice ground but even for him the weather become to much. It's a good job he brought his pro quip waterproofs of us though.

How to chip off a tight lie.

At the moment lies around the greens can be very tight. Read my tips on how to play these shots.

When you get a bare lie around the green, either because the grass is really short or there's not much of it, there's a premium on hitting the ball first. The best way to do that is to play it farther back in your stance -- the worse the lie, the farther back the ball goes. 

To make sure you get it back there, try this: 

• Place the clubhead behind the ball with your right hand only and step into your stance with your right foot first, lining up the ball with your instep. 
• Then set your left foot
• Take a narrow stance 
• Complete your grip.

Don't change anything else from your normal chipping technique. Your weight should favour your front foot, with the shaft leaning forward. 

From there, swing the club up going back and focus on hitting the ball first.
