So near yet so far away
Last week Mike Thompson and myself (with my dad caddying) headed over to Coventry golf club for the Lombard Trophy. The course was in excellent condition and after a delayed start due to fog we managed to tee off at 9.20am. We had a great start and as we stood on the 12th tee we were 6 under par. We knew we had to get to around 8 under to win. We then bogeyed a par 5 but then followed it with 2 birdies in the last 5 holes to finish 7 under par. The winners went through on 9 under par and will play Gleneagles at the end of September. A great day though, on a really nice golf course.
Open weekend
Saturday
Having got everything prepared for the weekends Open Championship sale. We had brought food and drink along with many sales items. The weather turned again and flooded the course, which closed us for the day. As a golf professional you always allow for bad weather during the winter but not in the summer. This weather has a massive effect on business. Let's just hope we now have a good run of weather.

Lady Captains at home day and presentation
Last Tuesday the Lady Captain, Wendy, hosted her day at the golf club. The day consisted of golf followed by a meal afterwards and for those who couldn't make the golf, just the meal. Wendy had over 40 ladies for the golf followed by over 50 ladies for the dinner. The ladies had a great time and really enjoyed the day and the get together of the evening to celebrate the ladies section. On the evening they also present trophies for the major competitions that have been played during the year. Please see below the winner and congratulation on all that have taken part and won competitions this year.
Putting clinic in full swing
On Monday I ran the first summer clinic. The clinic was on putting. We set out 6 different stations on the putting green; each station was to work on speed, distance, alignment or strike. I spoke about the stroke and how important it was to read the greens and to understand the lines and pace of a green. It was a great night, please see images below.
Don't miss out on the next clinic!!!
Mon 11th Aug 6pm. CHIPPING. £10 per person and we will talk about distance control and club selection along with technique. Please click here to reserve your place.
What's the pro shop staff up to this week?
It's back to business as normal after the weather of Saturday. I'm busy teaching all week, I'm playing in a WPGA event at Kidderminster on Friday with my dad, the Captain and Kevin Woodham, so I will look forward to that. Noel is getting busy. Jack will continue to find his feet in the shop and my dad continues to keep on top of the trolleys.
