New kid on the block

On Tuesday we had a new assistant start in the shop. Matt Ruffinato, who a young lad playing off 7.

Matt will be representing the club this season and will be working hard to get use to the Kidderminster way.

I’m sure you wish Matt all the best and please feel free to pop in and say hello.

This year we have made a huge investment in to new stock and all the latest technology. We have left no stone under turned when it comes to running a successful professional Shop. It’s a very difficult time of the year for PGA professionals with the weather being dreadful and all the latest stock now being delivered with many of the brands giving us 30 days to pay. Please if you are interested in anything golfing give us a chance. We are cheaper than you might think and we offer twice the service and after service from other competitors.

Coaching news

What have we been planning this winter, ready for the season?

It’s non stop at Kidderminster golf club Pro Shop at the moment, sorting out the coaching side of the business. Getting ready for the season ahead.
We have planned or we are planning to do the following offers.

Get in to Golf sessions booked - £25 for 5 Lessons for beginners and for anyone wanting to give golf a go. 

School golf sessions booked - going in to King Charles and their feeder schools to help promote golf and set up a golfing academy within the school

Ladies Thursday coaching sessions - Every other week we run a coaching class designed just for ladies. £10 per person from 11.30am until 1.00pm

Monthly clinics - a monthly clinic where we concentrate on a certain aspect of the game ever single month. 

Summer coaching programmes - planning a programme designed around your own game to help get the most from your game and help you improve.

Academy partnership - This is a perfect way to build you into a golfer from a beginner. Organised coaching sessions both group and individual as well as use of the course at certain times and competition play as well as learn the etiquette and rules. All this for £40 per month.

A feature you might not be aware of...

Nowadays, distance measuring devices are considered vital pieces of equipment by many golfers. We think that it’s only once you regularly use one that you begin to appreciate just how useful it can be in helping you play your best golf.

More than front, middle and back
The main reason you’ve probably considered a GPS device is for the distances it gives you to the front, middle and back of the green, but Garmin’s products offer a little bit more.

This Approach S20 GPS watch has Green View that reveals the shape of the green for any blind approach shots, plus it can keep score and discreetly receive messages. The feature we find most beneficial though is its lay-up distances to hazards and doglegs, which are invaluable when you’re playing new courses and need to plot your tee shots, like in the hole graphic here.

Which grip should you go for?

Different grips offer varied performance benefits, which is why you should pay close attention to which ones you choose for your clubs. It’s also true that you should come and feel a few in person, plus there are other factors you must consider.

Golf Pride Align Grips

Grip size
Size is arguably the most important factor to consider with everything from undersize to jumbo available, as well as additional layers of tape. If a grip’s too small there’s a danger your hands will become too active, which can lead to hooks or pulls. If your grips are too thick your hands might not release effectively, causing blocks, pushes or slices.

Surface texture
If you look at your grips you'll notice they have patterns designed to offer either a smoother or rougher feel. Which one you opt for depends on what you find the most comfortable when hitting shots.

Playing conditions
Both the weather and your hands’ perspiration will also affect your grip choice. Generally speaking, if you play in wet weather or have hands that are prone to perspiring, we’d recommend trying moisture control grips with rougher textures.

One grip we’d certainly recommend trying is the Golf Pride MCC Align that has a raised ridge along the bottom that encourages consistent hand placment on every shot to aid a square clubface.
