Course news

Season is now here

I really feel the season is now upon us. Due to the weather I feel all golf courses are at least a month behind so please be patient, even though the sun is shinning it will still take a few weeks to truly dry the courses out. We have some great photos of the course and to be honest you can really see it taking shape.

Junior news

Juniors are now back in full swing

Due to the weather conditions in the winter we ran only 2 groups on a Saturday but now the weather has improved we are running our usual

Pat’s class age 4-8 years old 10am - 11am
Noel’s class age 9-12 years old 10am - 11am
Noel’s class age 13-18 years old 11.30am -12.30am

All sessions are £5 per child. If you would like your loved one to attend our academy please contact us on 01562 740090.

Coaching news

Get in to golf 2nd session

Last week we started our get into golf sessions with a putting lesson, yesterday we headed down my small practice ground for the start of the long game. We had great fun, digging a few holes along the way but really great fun and we even got some balls in the air.

St George’s parade

Last Sunday Macey, along with the rest of her brownies group attend the St George’s parade through Kidderminster, on to a church service and then back through town. A great day and a wonderful tradition we should never forget.

A very strange week in many ways

Writing my weekly newsletter and talking about Kidderminster golf club it would be remiss if me if I didn’t mention two people this week.

Eileen Underwood. Nicks wife for nearly 60 years, sadly passed away last month and her funeral was yesterday. I have fond memories of Eileen having worked for Nick as soon as I left school I saw more of Nick than I did my own Dad and Nick was an amazing professional and could only be that good with a great women behind him. Eileen and Nick were devoted to one another and their love for each other was amazing to see. Good bless Eileen.

Rod Hunter. Rod was our course manager and came along at a similar time to when I got the job as head professional. Rod followed after Roy Sheward retired and straight away saw a massive improvement in the course, Rod always said he was left a good course so it wasn’t hard. We’ve worked along side each other for 14 years and Rod left yesterday. I will continue to see Rod but I wish him all the best in the future and will be playing with him in June at Royal Porthcawl.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV
Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials.

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.

As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing.
