Junior Academy up and running
On Saturday I started the new junior golf academy. The response has been excellent with over 30 children turning up to have fun and to learn about the game of golf.
We have 15 children in the golf passport. The golf passport is structured sessions, from putting to playing on the golf course. They must learn how to fill in a scorecard and also skills for life, like the honesty of the game. Each week they link on to the junior golf passport website and click what they have learnt. This is a perfect way to get juniors into memberships at the golf club.
We have also started tri golf for under 6s. This started on Saturday with 16 children. We use plastic clubs and sponge balls and these sessions are all game related and just fun. Each week they learn a new game and again skills for life that is so important in the game.
If you have somebody who's interested in coming on Saturdays to the junior academy please click here.
Assessment lessons going strong
I have now been running the assessment lessons for over a month now and these have been very popular by lots of newsletter readers.
How can we improve your game?
For example this week I had a member who came for assessment lesson. He plays on average twice a week and would like to gain more distance on his iron shots. He was using Md Golf super strong steel shafted regular flexed irons.
His swing speed with these irons was averaging at 60mph. Ball speed around 90mph
We tried many different clubs to gain club head speed and in the end with the new Wilson dx100 superlight irons he averaged 75mph club head speed and 105 mph ball speed.
As you can see the lighter club suited his swing and this resulting in more club head speed and more ball speed, which also means more yardages.
