This is what a club is all about... After a very tough couple of months with the weather, it's been very hard not only for business but also the lack of people around the place. Some days have been very quiet, but I do understand when you get six months of rain in several weeks. What’s amazing about our club is the coming together, especially around Christmas time. Sunday saw the Friday Roll-up have their Christmas lunch with 40 enjoying a great afternoon to see all the ladies on Tuesday playing in their Christmas jumpers and then back in for mulled wine and turkey sandwiches, the smell of the mulled wine was amazing. Last night I was kindly invited by Kevin O’Conner (Captain Wednesday) for their Roll-up Dinner. With over 50 people enjoying a great mornings golf followed by a wonderful meal, a few drinks and brilliant entertainment from Chris Tompkin, Mick Dyer, John Drew and Dave Colwell. Great songs and wonderful comedy sketches. I do feel when people are looking for a golf club to join they always look solely at the course, but sometimes when you have dinners like the ones I’ve seen this week the camaraderie and banter is a massive part of a golf club and one that people need to think about when joining a club. |
