Do you realise how important wedges are in the bag? The modern technology over the last 5 years has seen the wedge loft get stronger and stronger. When I was a kid, my wedge loft was 48 degree but now the standard is between 43 and 45 degrees. You might ask why this is important. The reason is the sand wedge hasn’t changed in loft; this is between 54 and 56 degrees. When you think that 80% of golf is played within 100 yards the wedge play is much more important than any other clubs in your bag but we can sell drivers much easier than wedge because everyone is obsessed with distance but it means nothing without having a good wedge and short game. If you just carry a pitching wedge and sand wedge you will find a massive gap in your bag with yardages. For example, your pitching wedge goes 100 yards, the sand wedge will go around 70 yards this will give you a gap of 30 yards. You wouldn’t carry 8 irons and then go straight to a 5 iron - that’s the same gap. When your wedges play over 100 rounds the spin can half. If you play regular you need to replace every 18 months and everyone else around 2 years.
We are lucky at Kidderminster to be advanced wedge fitters for NEW Titleist SM8 Vokey wedges. We have every bounce, grind and loft in both right hand and left hand, we can gap you in the studio and then go down the practice ground to try them of different lies and out the bunkers. I can tell you enough about how important this is. |
