Slow play is killing the game!!
Having been to several seminars this year with golf England and the EGU, the biggest issue we are facing in the game of golf is slow play. All the surveys show you that younger people are not coming into the game because they haven't got the time, they are not cash poor but they are time poor. The classic example is the younger person will pay up to £100 per month for a gym membership but not for a golf membership, the reason is that going to the gym usually takes them around a hour but golf is now taking up to 5 hour for a round of golf meaning they could be out the house for up to 6/7 hours. This is a massive issue that needs tackling.
Shorter holes and marshals helping to find lost balls in the amateur ranks could help to speed up golf, says the sport's governing body. A two-day conference is taking place in St Andrews on how to address slow play across all levels of golf. R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers says the pace of play is an important issue for golf as it attempts to boost its appeal.
"Time is a key issue and has been for a number of years," he said.
"We want to examine it and come out with practical guidance that we can give to players and courses to really get on top of it.
Please remember at this time of year especially, we only have around 8 hours of day light. On a Saturday when we are trying to get up to 100 members around the course pace of play is crucial. Please keep up with the group in front and to always call groups through when you are looking for a ball, also be aware where you leave your trolley around the green and always mark your score card on the next tee, all these things will help speed up play.
The swing studio continues to impress
If you haven't seen me for a few weeks that because I've been in the swing studio and not on a sandy beach on holiday. The studio continues to thrill members and the coaching gets better and better using the system. Take a look at the information we can now give you after hitting each golf ball, this might look complicated but once you have had a couple of lessons you will start to really understand these figures. Also if you are using the room regularly, we will set you up a profile which will store all your stats so you can see these at anytime by entering the foresight website.
The simulator is now being used and again members are loving the challenge and the feedback the system gives you. You choose the course, the conditions (wind, ground conditions, green speed, pin placements) you then choose what tees you want to play off and how many holes and away you go. It very simple to use and great fun.

What's the pro shop staff up to this week?
This week continues to be a crazy time with the swing studio and Christmas trade. I have a few spare spaces Saturday morning if you are interested in a lesson. Noel is a busy boy with the shop and teaching, my dad has returned from Bude after a week of wind and rain and has cracked on with the trolley repairs and Ethan continues to impress us at weekends.
